words, words and more words

Savanna Victoria is a London based photographer. Born in West London in 1997, Savanna received her first camera at the young age of 12. The interest in photography was instant, carrying her camera everywhere she went even to school. Her interest into photography as an art was developed during her years in GCSE art when she gravitated towards cameras over any other art medium. Her choice of art practice was solidified at the start of her A Levels when she replaced A Level Fine Art to solely hone her passion in A Level Photography.

During her first few years she followed very abstract themes enjoying the concept of colour and light over all else but soon falling in love with portraiture. Her interests in abstract photography did not however completely diminish and she in fact chose to merge the two and focused on abstract and surreal portraiture.

Her most recent work, ‘Ethereal’, is a project materialising the spiritual journey she took with her inner feminine energy and spirituality throughout the isolated time she had during the COVID-19 national lockdowns in 2020 and 2021. ’Ethereal’ focuses on the exploration of how she became more connected to her ‘Feminine Devine’. Feminine energy refers to the specific traits someone has that keeps them in touch with their flow of life, emotion and creativity.

Her previous work reflected similar themes involving femininity including both the negative aspects upon her, as well as the strength that she is able to find in her own femininity.

The project consists of a collection pieces, most of which contain herself, which she explains to represent the connection she has built between her own creative practice, spiritual health and energy connection. The idea behind her work is that her photography so well channels her energy in a positive way she wanted to tap into that strength and focus it into the bettering of her own energy’s health.

Similarly to her latest project she has also started working in professional boudoir photography. Even though her last project contained a multitude of photography genres, the one that stood out the most was boudoir photoshoots she had done on herself. These photographs were used as a stepping stone into her own professional and commissioned practiced that veered off from her own artistic practice that stayed more conceptual.
